The Blue Flag
The Blue Flag is issued by the European Foundation for Education....FEEE Sponsored by the European Commission for the environment to communities that are making a special effort to maintain the cleanliness of their beaches and harbours and to manage them with respect for the local natural environment Objectives The aim of the Blue Flag Project is to bring about awareness in local populations of the quality of their beaches and ports in Europe especially water quality for bathing. By obtaining the Blue Flag, a recognition of quality in Europe, many communities are looking to balance the use of natural resources , with respect for the environment Criteria 1. Clean water - by analysis. The water quality must be optimal. 2. Environmental education and information 3. Cleanliness of the sand and trash collection. 4. Lifeguards and beach patrols 5. Easy and safe access. 6. Para-medics and on the spot emergency medical attention, able to quickly transfer a patient to a nearby hospital. 7. NO uncontrolled camping. 8. Signposts and respect for the coastal legislation 9. Clean drinking water. Visible presence of drinking fountains. 10. Sanitary services. Visible presence of public showers and lavatories with optimal maintenance of these services and special installations for the handicapped. 11. Prohibition of motor vehicles 12. Prohibition of domestic animals.
