San Antonio de Portmany

General information about San Antonio

San Antonio de Portmany

It´s clear that Ibiza town is the best known name on the island, however in San Antonio , on the opposite west coast , the entertainment and cultural options available are on equal par with Ibiza.

Like many other towns on the Mediterranean, San Antonio changed in a short time, from being a small fishing village, to a world class tourist resort destination, which produced an increase in population and services.

Group Playa Sol is proud to manage several hotels and Apart-hotels in this area.

The town of San Antonio has, in its own right ,become the second largest tourist destination on the island and here you will find true shrines of Ibiza´s nightlife.

San Antonio

really does offer something for everybody, with a great variety of accommodation and entertainment, and just 20 mins drive from Ibiza Town. Famous for it's sunsets and lively night-time vibe, San Antonio is a great holiday choice.

The pre-season months of May and June, and the later months of September and October are popular with families and couples, who enjoy the new promenade, the safe, shallow waters of the bay and the fantastic beaches, just a short ferry ride away.

The high season months of July, August and the beginning of September are the best time to come if you are looking for buzzing nightlife, when the predominantly British holiday makers are joined by an increasing number of German, Italian, Scandinavian and Dutch guests.

There is an enormous selection of accommodation to suit every budget: apartments and hostels, hotels, holiday clubs - and all just a short stroll away from the centre of the action and the Sunset Cafés.

Below the splendid promenade, the Town Hall have created an extremely good long, wide beach of fine, white sand drawn from the sea (in June 2002).

The waters are clean and shallow, safe for children and very inviting for less confident swimmers.
There are excellent water sports facilities, and the water quality is high.

The Bay of San Antonio

is famed for being one of the most beautiful in the Mediterranean. With the thriving resort of San Antonio on the north side and the Bay holiday area extending along the south; both enjoy panoramic views out to the islands and the amazing sunsets to be seen all year round. In terms of holiday appeal they are two distinctly different resorts.

The Bay has a relaxed friendly atmosphere, perfect for strolling around. By day, you are never far from a beach and at night there's plenty to do and see. On the spacious terraces of the cafes & bars, many have live shows & music until midnight when everyone continues the party inside in air-conditioned comfort - or move on to the famous big clubs.

You're never far from a beach, five small ones are within short walking distance and in fact a favourite way to start - or end - the day, is a stroll along the shoreline path connecting the beaches that all have bars open 'til late.

The Monument al Descobriment d’Amèrica (Monument to the discovery of América), popularly known as "Columbus’s Egg" was unveiled in San Antonio (Ibiza) on October 12th 1992, while Antoni Marí Tur was Mayor, and it owes its existence to three men: Antoni Hormigo, whose idea it originary was, based on the hypothesis of an "Ibizan Columbus"; Julio Bauza, the architect and project designer; and Julio Ojeda, who made the original models. It is built of reinforced concrete and is 6 metres tall. In the middle there is an iron replica of the ship Santa María, the work of Julio Bauza, which is 2.8 metres in length and 650 kilos in weight. The prow points westward, towards America. There is probably no other monument quite like it anywhere else in the world and every year it is photographed by hundreds of thousands of tourists who have come to spend their holidays on the island of Ibiza.

West End

Without doubt another important spot in San Antonio, is the West End. This is an avenue of pubs and bars, frequented by mostly English speaking tourists.

Situated in the center of the town, it is only 5 minutes from the 2 of the principal discos on the island.:- Eden and Es Paradis.
