Please be aware that you are on a small island. Distances here are short. If you drive in a straight line in any direction, you will be stopped by the sea, before you have travelled 28 miles (45 kilometres.) It is easy to rent a car or use the public transport, but if you are alone or with a girlfriend I strongly recommendthat you rent a motorbike, as its very difficult to drive faster than 80 kms / 49 mph. In fact if you exceed this speed limit you will get a hefty expensive fine. A bicycle is a better choice for short distances, the advantage of these modes of transport are, that they are much more friendly to the enviornment, and more practical than a car. You will also have no parking problems for your vehicle, a very important point in the busy summer months.
