We were in the Medieval Fair, and we will tell you about it
May 11th, 2009
The Castle of Dalt Vila was celebrating the 10th anniversary of its inscription on UNESCO's World Heritage of Humanity list. The celebration was full of life, music, colours, happiness, dance and much more. The offered activities highly met everyone’s expectations. Besides, we could appreciate dancers in period costumes, music groups playing on the streets surrounded by visitors, craftsmen showing off their crafts, theatre companies performing the lifestyle of the past times…
Behind the Castle we met some members of the theatre company “Foc i Fum”, who were repeating their texts while putting on theirs costumes and make-up. When they finally got ready, they went straight to the main streets as characters representing poverty, plague, lepers and even as witches and nuns. In those times nuns were looking after lepers carefully also by helping them to collect alms. We saw also some music groups dressed in period costumes who filled the streets of the Castle with magical and very special atmosphere. We could see them dancing and singing the most beautiful melodies and encouraging visitors with their children to join the dance. On the other hand, we saw craftsmen performing their crafts which they have learnt themselves through their lives. Some of them worked in the profession for the 5th generation. Every single one was appealing to different audiences, ages and nationalities of visitors. Keep on reading! We are going to write more about other medieval attractions in case you missed or could not attend this beautiful celebration of the 10th anniversary of the inscription on UNESCO's World Heritage of Humanity list. It was a great success for crafts, food, dances, music, acrobatics and entertainment for adults and kids.
