Ibiza has attracted attention of many photographs. The architecture and the particular image of Ibiza’s houses were the inspiration for such photographs as Croat Mario von Bucovic and Austrian Raoul Hausmann. The Ibiza’s landscape, inhabitants, habits and the other aspects have been also the inspiration for many other masters of photography.
The presentation of the 2nd edition of the book “Some photos for history – Ibiza in the fifties “ (Unas imágenes para la historia. Ibiza años cincuenta) takes place Friday 17th in the Cultural and social centre S`Alemera.
The 2nd edition includes also some news such as translation of some texts into Spanish (Castilian). Those texts have been chosen by Heinz Vontin, photographer and author of the book.
The presentation of photos with the aim to commemorate the past is a really nice idea. In search for the photos it is essential to collaborate with local contemporaries. Some time ago I bought a book about Almuñécar, a small settlement with the Phoenician past (origin). The photo on front page and some others in the book represent scenes of “Phoenician boats” which were used by local fishermen until the seventies. The boats have similar design to “naos” which are mentioned in some documents as Phoenician ones. It means that they have an elementary design inspired by the form of the eye. The eye was considered to be the protective symbol of Horus. On the other side, the design considers especially its everyday use as a fishing boat.
The use and habits of those, whose origin we exactly do not know is without any doubts present in every village. Also the Balearic Islands want to commemorate their photographic history. There is a project of UIB which starts in the twenties and ends in the sixties.
